Journal Entry 1 by seethroughfaith from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Friday, November 05, 2010
This book was given to me by Canongate to read and review. Antonio Tabucchi is one of Italy's most acclaimed contemporary writers. Born in Pisa in 1943, Tabucchi lived in India and Portugal before settling in his native Tuscany. He is the author of twenty-six books, six of which have been translated into English, and has been awarded many prestigious prizes, including the Prix Medicis etranger for Notturno indiano and the Premio Campiello and the Aristeion Prize for Pereira Maintains. He divides his time between Lisbon and Siena, where he teaches Portuguese language and literature at the University of Siena. A masterpiece of compression. A political history of 1930s Portugal, a love story between a man and his dead wife, a gloriously successful formal experiment, and an irresistible thriller - and it can be read with enormous pleasure in a single afternoon. Released 1 yr ago (3/21/2011 UTC) at Little Britannia (Kauppahalli) in Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland WILD RELEASE NOTES:
It's time to let this book go. Hope it finds a new reader and a new temporary home before being re-released again. I love reading where books end up -and what other readers thought of the book (good and bad!) - so do please take time to make a journal entry if you possibly can. Appreciate that!

I left couple of books to Little Britannia, and I just couldn't help taking this book with me - that this story is happening in Portugal, that sounds interesting :-) Thanks for sharing!

Journal Entry 5 by AspenYard at Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Sunday, May 27, 2012
This was nice book, especially the narrative style was nice. The title, which was repeated within the text made me wonder, how it could be translated into Finnish - those repeats were kind of putting the story together, so leaving them out would not be good. I liked the illustrations of Portuguese beaches and Atlantic breeze, which are often praised by one Portuguese friend. And during this time of Eurovision song contest, it struck me that Portugal is on the edge of Europe in the same way as Finland, just on the opposite edge. The story became more political towards the end, even a bit violent, but still, I liked the final decision of Pereira :) And now, I have Portugal in my "book from each country" challenge, too. Thanks for sharing.
