My thoughts on the book;

Not read by me, but picked up from a local charity shop as they were running a monthly special deal, where you could buy four hardback novels for just £1. At that sort of price, I couldn't turn down picking up a load of books for wild releases, and doing a bit of good for the charity too. ;-)

"From the creator of Silent Witness another gripping mystery featuring Dr Sam Ryan
When the beautiful wife of a local MP is found brutally murdered in her own home, the entire resources of the Cambridge Constabulary are brought to bear. Leading the investigation is Chief Superintendent Adams, who is determined to further his career by solving this high profile case.

It is an entirely different matter, however, when the decomposed body of a homeless drug addict is found. Putting the unconventional Detective Stanley Sharman in charge, Adams dismisses the case from his mind. But Stan Sharman is not a man to let things go easily. Enlisting the help of Dr Sam Ryan, Stan is determined to discover who the young woman is and how she died.

Without a name, without a face, and with no co-operation from the police, Sam and Sharman face a seemingly impossible task. With no other clues, and, more importantly, no funds, they persuade a brilliant art student to reconstruct the girl's face. But as her features become clearer, so the awful truth of her life and death slowly come to light, exposing a web of exploitation and corruption that reaches far into Europe exposing the terrible price of war and the men who benefit from it... CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

So there I am... sitting at my PC and idly browsing the 'Net when I decide to check my dusty and neglected email inbox in the vain hope that someone, somewhere, will have sent me a message. Even one of those "HeY!! GEt iT Bigg NoW WIth mY V-iag@ra"-spam emails would have been welcome...

What's this I see? A plea for help.. for me?! All about a certain potential BookCrosser-in-the-making called "Jess", who was wishing she could find her own "wild released" book. Could I step in and find something suitable in my vaults and somehow get it to her;

From: karen07818;

...

"She had a good time at the pub last night with us all and this would just illustrate bookcrossing perfectly, random books and random strangers.

fingers crossed..."

What sort of Superhero monkey would I be if I were to ignore such a request? ;-)

Turning to my bust of Spike Milligan (my favourite writer), I lifted it's head, revealing the large red secret button contained within it. Pressing it, I watched as a hidden panel in the wall slid open in front of me, exposing a deep shaft and a fireman's pole.

Pausing only to close the bust's head, I turned and threw myself at the pole, sliding down it and into the depths of my "Banana Lair".

Having changed into my Super Hero costume on my way down the pole, I hurriedly searched the shelves for a suitable book for Jess. Pushing aside the piles of brown punched cards lying amongst all the super computers, I found the ideal one.

I labelled it with one of my pre-issued BCID numbers, and stopping only to don my yellow and brown cape with it's image of a large bunch of bananas stitched on it's middle, and to pull my underpants on over my suit trousers, I jumped into my nuclear fusion-powered Super-Jet-Turbo Banana Slippers, and set off on foot to the secret location I had been given via coded fruit (written inside a banana with a needle; the text mysteriously and slowly appearing in a brown shade as the peeled fruit oxidized, providing the details of the rendezvous point) to drop off the book for Jess.

I can only banana-hope I'm in time... ;-)

Microsoft Office Word Label and Bookmark Templates;

A lot of us BookCrossers use sheets of shop-bought sticky labels to put the BCID numbers on our books, myself included. I've made up several BookCrossing label templates and other bits and bobs in MS Word, and if you would like any of them, drop me a Private Message with your requirements, and I can directly link you to what might be suitable for you.

Templates are available in a wide range of label sizes and label brands, including;

Ascom
Avery
Banner (16 per A4 sheet)
Compulabel
Konica Minolta
MACO
Quill
Xerox

I also have a sheet of basic bookmarks with the BC logo and web address too. Oh, and I've even made up a Microsoft Word "mail merge" version of a Banner labels template, and put up an update to Yoko's "What is BookCrossing?" three-pane table "stand-up" / display tool too, authored by BookCrossing user Mr_Bearly.

If I don't have what you need, I can probably create it for you. Drop me a PM.

this book was very gripping and kept me interested. it takes a while to get into and makes you have to learn the people quickly to understand it. i liked the fact that it had two murders to investigate at the same time and had a lot of cliff hangers! i found myself walking home at night and stopping to stand under street lights to read what was going to happen as my heart was pounding and could not walk!very good read. all i would say is that for me it did not end at a good point i always like what happens after these events. all the detectives and people with important jobs lives changed during these investigations quite drastically and i would have liked to know if they got back on thier feet or were just traumatised from it!! thank you james uk for the great book. i left it on the train for someone else.
