Nervous bookring!
Nervous bookring!
i quite liked this book! i had never read anything by poppy z. brite myself, but had heard from others they really like her writing.
i especially liked her style of writing, the words she uses... sometimes the stories became a bit too gory for my liking, but other than that, i really enjoyed reading this little book.
my plan with the book is to pass it on the next person in the nervousness chain! :)

Received as part of a Nervousness bookring. :) I'd heard of Poppy Z. Brite, but had never read anything by the author. I wasn't entirely sure of what to expect, but it was pretty interesting. :) Kind of shocking at first, and a bit too.. dark.. compared to the books i've been reading lately, but it was a nice little collection of short stories. Kinda makes me want to pull out the Anne Rice novels. :D
Sending off to the next in line, August 19.

This is definitely not in the same league as Stephen King or Dean Koontz, etc. These stories were a little to goth for me....with some pretty disgusting sex in the first story. The second and last story were more on the scary side....Poppy is just not what I call a real horror writer. I really couldn't get into her stories......she turned me off more than turned me on to her writing.
I'm sending this book on to a fellow Nervousness.org member as part of a Nervousness.org BookCrossing.com bookring.

I have to admit I had not heard of Poppy Z. Brite, so this was an interesting opportunity to learn about her writing. I really enjoyed this book. I found myself not quite able to put the book down. This tiny book was a quick read, but packed full of horror. Also, as short stories, these were well done, with a clincher at the end of each. I am going to look for more of her work.
I'm a part of nervousness.org and this book came my way Via an old LMAO ( land moving Art Object). It came a little battered ( I'm hoping it was love!) and the paper spine was beginning to detatch from its cover. I performed a little minor surgery with some packing tape.
1.28.04
finished it.
Wow.
I really need to find more.
The writing intrigued me- there would be mention of somethign grotesque, then it would jump into detail and totally put me in that spot... chills ran up and down my spine.
Really great.
I'm now awaiting the next in line at Nervousness to respond to me, so the book can move on.
