Behind Closed Doors

I have only just finished this book-review to follow:-
This is a true story written by the mother of Eastenders star Martine McCutcheon. It is set in London where the author was born in the 1950s. It tells a horrific tale of neglect and abuse of all kinds, to the author and her siblings by their parents, in particular their father. In fact it was so graphic in detail at times that I couldn't bear to read it all and had to skip a few pages. It is easy to read generally and simply written highlighting a disgraceful display of adults not listening to children where abuse is so plain to see. Many times during the story people in authority obviously turned a blind eye to what should have been staring them in the face-the fact that the children were being treated so appallingly.
The author seems to have eventually triumphed over adversity but so much of the abuse could have been avoided if the adults around her had only been more perceptive and caring.
