The back reads:
"Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires...The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning...along with the houses in which they were hidden. Guy Montag enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs nor the joy of watching pages consumed by flames...never questioned anything until he met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid. Then he met a professor who told him of a future in which people could think...and Guy Montag suddenly realized what he had to do!"

This is required reading for High School Sophmores in some counties.

Released on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Private Residence in Bookring, postal release USA.

Wow! This book is a powerful statement, indeed. If BookCrossing ever needed a manifesto, this could serve quite nicely.

I must confess that I had a number of preconceptions about this book, most of which proved to be erroneous. I always thought of this book as being about a totalitarian government, banning and burning books that threatened that government's hold on power. Instead, this is about political correctness taken to the extreme, about the descent of pop culture to the lowest possible common denominator. This is censorship by special interests and the errosion of entertainment to the inane. However, in the end, there is hope. The books will live on, and we will learn from our errors. As grim as the ending is, it is still cautiously optimistic.

A terrific book! Thank you Anatra for providing me with the opportunity to finally read this. Now its on its way to caligula03 in California.

I read this back in 8th grade and am looking forward to rereading this. You can keep track of my progress via my profile.

I took more away from reading this book than I did in 8th grade. In 8th grade the book was required reading and the teacher had his mind set on what the meaning of the book was. I really hate being told what to think without any room for interpretation. This time it was just me and the book. I've also since 8th grade grown to love Ray Bradbury's works.

I'll just sign off saying that I found a certain bittersweet irony in reading this book on the anniversary of the WTC/Pentagon attacks.

I found this book to be riviting in every sense of the word.I could not put it down.I found Ray Bradbury's words to be so visually compelling as well as emotionally. It is also chilling to think that a world like this could evolve.
With events of the past 2 years we need to make sure it never will.
