Friend or Foe

Evacuated from London, David and Tucky feel like the war is a long way away from their new life in the countryside. Then one night the skyline of the moor is lit up with gun flashes, and the distant crump of bombing miles away brings the war back to them and shatters their new found peace.
Away to travel as a Ring.

Read in one sitting and as usual, excellent! One of my favourite books as a early teen was Robert Westell's 'The Machine Gunners' and this MM story reminded me of that earlier book, though in a more simplified form.
I already have Kingfan30's address so I'll get this in the post as soon as my current cold and a work course allows me to!
Will be posted from Godmanchester, Huntingdon or RAF Wyton post office.
Thanks again for hosting this ring Lynn, and for the lovely pc and tea as well :)

Book arrived safe and sound, thank you for sharing, I know its naughty but seeing as they are such a quick read I may sneak this one in between another ray so that I don't hold it up too long. The next thing is which tea to choose, one I would normally have or something different?
3 Nov 11 - ok I have sneaked it in! As always a brilliant book, the thing I love about this writer is that he takes difficult situations and makes them easy for children to understand but enjoyable at the same time for any reader old or young. I started this last night before bed, but could not quite get through it, my eyes would just not stay open so had to finish the last 20 pages this morning. Have requested the address of the next person so will pop it in the post as soon as I get it.

On its way to hakkalina
The book arrived to me! Smurphie, thanks for the postcard. And kingan30, thanks for the tea bags! I haven't tasted any of them yet :))
Update: 2010.11.19.
It was a great story, luckily it had a good end, since I read it in the evening, but nevertheless it was thought-provoking. Friend or Foe... it can happen easily that a "foe" can be a friend, since via the "foe", things can be learnt better, our enemy is the best teacher...

The book is travelling to its next reader!
Arrived today. Thanks for sending on, hakkalina! I'll read it and send it back to smurphie as soon as possible!
Another good story from Michael Morpurgo. I think his best ones are those set in or around wartime (Private Peaceful, War Horse, Waiting for Anya) and this book just confirms that idea! I agree with the person above who said that this author has the skill of presenting complex ideas in a simple way for young readers, while still keeping the story enjoyable. Also liked the illustrations in this one, they looked sort of "old-fashioned".
I've sent Smurphie a PM to ask for her address.
