Amazon Editorial Review

Monica Moran was not the woman she used to be. Or rather she was not just the woman she used to be. She was at least one other woman as well and their combined weight sat heavily on her overburdened bones. Where her breasts had been generous twenty years ago, they were now magnanimous, munificent...she leaned forward to negotiate the bottom step and Bernadette couldn't help clucking in disapproval. If that cleavage was any closer to the ground you could stand a bicycle in it. Twenty years ago, when Father Barry ruled the Tullabeg roost, Bernadette Teegan and Monica Moran vied for his attention. Then Monica went away and life settled down. Now Monica is back. And Bernadette has no intention of making hers a happy visit. She has plans to snare the most eligible bachelor in town, Cormac Hegarty, Estate Agent, and keep nephew Michael's soul (and overalls) spotless. But Monica has plans too! A comedy of errors, misdirection and cross-wired agendas, "Toppling Miss April" is a triumph of flesh over fantasy, when menopause is just a pause between men and experience counts for everything.

I have read another book by this author which I really enjoyed, but this was just an ok read.

Caught at Martha's Pantry. Pleased to have the chance of reading another book from the Transita stable.

Sorry to say that I got as far as p. 38 and decided this was definitely not a book for me. Pity as I've really enjoyed other books from Transita.

In 'About the Author' notes it says - "... is her second novel and was written in response to the observation that her first, which is about a nun, didn't have naughty bits. Toppling Miss April has no nuns!

I found enough uncomfortable innuendos in the 38 pages I read for any desire to finish this book was quashed. Not my style of book at all.

Reminded me a bit of the Carry-on style of movies, the first one of which was the last one I saw.

I'll post this on to Otakuu when I check out her address.

I am ashamed to say that I didn't journal this when it first landed. Perhaps I had no in-house internet at the time!

I enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed others by this author. I foresaw some of the plot twists but that didn't detract.

I enjoyed meeting Adrienne Dines at the London Convention in 2008 so perhaps my pleasure in her stories is helped along by my memories of her lilting voice!

I will send it on its way to the Wellington Uncon in due course

This got passed along to me today to take to either Sherlockfan or the convention, and because Sherlockfan already seems to have had it, I'll keep it for the convention. Doesn't really look like my kind of thing.

Caught at the awesome Unconvention in Wellington.
Sherlock-Fan I hope you are on the road to recovery!?
This looks a bit controversial and has had mixed reviews, just my kind of book!
TBR for now though..

Finally, finally read this book. Man did I struggle my way through it. I found the constant misunderstandings completely annoying and the characters made me want to rip their hair out. Nevertheless, for what it's worth it was a light reading exercise.
Not sure where this will go next - being stuck in a remote community there isn't much opportunity for book exchanges. Maybe I will take it to Weipa on the weekend to wild release.
