But this isn't just Carl's story--it's also that of his shiftless father, William; of Adam Goldsmith, a small-town accountant and Elizabeth's confidant and lover; of Luke Richardson, whose family has always controlled West Gull and who "rescued" Carl's ex-wife, Chrissy; and, of course, of Elizabeth herself.

A very interesting and different kind of read about various people's different lives in a small Canadian town and how their presents and pasts all intersect. I'm not sure how I felt about it since varied between serious and quirky, but it made me laugh more than once and most loose ends were tied up by the end of the book.
