1976 Holt, Rinehart and Winston hardcover, with dust jacket, illustration by Rick Sternback. I bought this copy today for 25 cents from the sale shelf of Dimond Library.
I can let this go after I read:
1966 Neutron Star (short story) [read 2012]
1970 Ringworld [read 2013]
1974 The Mote in God's Eye [read 2019]
Edit March 10, 2021: This was a really fantastic adventure jumping millions of years into the future, by means of near-light speed travel. I did my usual skimming for time, but several sections in the beginning and again in the second half made me slow down for the adventure in detail. There are lots of surprises and plot turns, by this brilliantly creative author. I currently have this ranked at #185 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.
