"The first ever hardback edition and the first ever UK edition of a bestseller on the other side of the pond for nearly 30 years, a cruelly funny but affectionate parody that will nevertheless appeal to 90% of Tolkien fans."

I bought this quite some time back, thought it might be fun to read. It wasn't or at least I didn't think it was funny so I didn't even finish it. Maybe someone else will enjoy it.

Thanks for sending it to me SerendipityN. It is going on my TBR pile, which isn't that massive. So I hope it won't have to spend too much time in my bookcase before it can travel on!

What a pity. I really wanted to like this book. I like a good parody every now and then, but I haven't found it in this book. (Although I thought I would.) I didn't get really far into it, but I quickly felt that it wouldn't get any better and I would just get BORED with it. So on to a new reader with this book. Hopefully someone who can appreciate its humour!

What a lovely surprise in my mailbox! Thanks for sharing this little book that has been on my wishlist for some time now. I have added it to Mt. TBR, but have also peeked at the first part of it a little because I couldn't resist, so it probably won't stay on there for long.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Took this one to the post-convention Orange Party for BC in DC (Orange you glad you helped? Orange you glad it's over?). Finished reading it just before then. I found it an excellent illustration of all the ways that Tolkien could have gone so wrong and all the ways he was a genius in borrowing what he did from mythology and cliche and such. The bad puns were probably my favorite aspect of this spoof -- Minas Tereth renamed as Minas Troney has a sister-kingdom named Chicken Noodul; Mordor is renamed Fordor, as opposed to the land of Twodoor. Can't say it was laugh out loud funny, but I did enjoy, and it some of it was so awful it was good.

Hope whomever took it home from the party enjoys it!

Lacking an effective organizational system for my BC books, I have once again stumbled upon a little stack of them that I neglected to journal. This time it's a stack of some of the books I picked up at the post BookCrossing Convention party. I hope to read this one on an upcoming road trip and, when I'm finished, to release it somewhere along my route.

I read only a little of this one. Some parts of it were amusing, but mostly it just wasn't as funny or as interesting as I wanted it to be.
