Excellent story centering on one Vermont family over a drought filled summer. Lawyer Scottie has always been on the corporate side, but he starts questioning that allegiance while representing a ski resort after spotting a near extinct mountain lion with his daughter. His wife, daughter and sister-in-law are all dousers - "water witches" - who are increasingly called on to find new sources for wells as they dry up. There's a great tug of war with Scottie - will he or won't he do the "right thing" or is the pull of the corporate world too strong?
a wishlist rabck and ultimate challenge book. Enjoy!
arrived safe and sound
LOVE IT. A story about women who use their hidden talents for the purpose of helping those around them. Wonderful conflicts between man and nature, man and man/woman, ending to embrace all.
thank you for the rabck Hanrahan-Siudy. I will try to get to this book soon so I can move it along.
Conservatives vs. Liberals... a novel full of political angst. Scottie Winston, a lawyer representing Powder Peak, a local ski resort, is doing what he can to insure more jobs are created in the Vermont ski industry. In order to create these new jobs, the ski resort will have to tear down trees for additional ski trails and will need to access the water from the river to make snow for those trails.
Reedy McClure, a state senator and leader of the COPPER project, is soon to marry Patience, Scottie's sister-in-law. The COPPER (Citizens Opposed to the Powder Peak Environmental Rape) project is bound and determined to not allow the river, which is already low due to the drought, to be used to make snow for the ski resort. In addition, the wildlife living on the mountain need the trees for shelter and shade, therefore they cannot be cut down.
In the middle of the political battle between the Tree Huggers and the Ski Resort, Scottie and Reedy must coexist. They are soon to be related through marriage in a family of dowsers. Patience is a well-known dowser, using her skills to find water veins for those digging wells. Miranda, Scottie's daughter, has been blessed with the gift of dowsing. Her aunt Patience is her teacher, teaching Miranda the finer points of dowsing.
Individuals start to questions their beliefs and/or become more rooting in their values. This is not a novel of winner and losers, but rather an internal struggle of doing what is right, facing the consequences, and becoming who you want rather that what others want you to be.
