CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Chosen from the bookbox and posted on.
the book arrived today - I wasn't expecting it to come this quickly! Thanks for sharing it and I can't wait to get started!
I had a lot of difficulty with the title story: the cruelty depicted in that story was extremely disturbing to me. I did, however really enjoy the writing style in the Pregnancy Diary.
Thanks for sharing this book Samrana!

Picked up at Calgary book crossing meeting
Disturbingly different stories. They really make a person think about people's potential and reactions to cruelty, apathy, obsessions, and change. Each story ends without answering all the questions. I really enjoyed these stories. Thanks for the read!
To be released at Calgary's Joshua Tree Cafe @ a BC get together
I tok this one back for a possible RABCK or asian bookbox.

I picked this book up at the Bookcrossing meeting today to diversify my short story selection in preparation for the June Short Story themed meeting - thank you, megami-no-sushi! Also, it was great to see you again - we all miss you.....
It took me a ridiculously long time to get around to reading this book considering it only took me an afternoon to actually read it.
This didn't completely float my boat. Yoko Ogawa can definitely write and conjure pictures in your mind. It was more the content of the stories that didn't work for me. The first novella, I couldn't stand the sociopath main character - she was loathsome. The second novella, the pregnant sister was unbearable. I'm sorry, but I've had 3 babies and she was beyond ridiculous. The third novella had the most promise, but then the ending was just a weird. Also - all of the stories were just a bit too intensely naval-gazing my liking.
I will be taking this back to the Calgary Bookcrossing group to find a new reader.
