Elspeth, the aunt of two young mirror twins (Julia and Valentina) dies of leukemia, leaving them her apartment which is located beside Highgate cemetery in London. The twins are Americans, having lived in Illinois with their mother, Edwina, who is Elspeth's sister. Edwina and Elspeth have not spoken for many years. The reason for the rift between them is a secret and is not explained to the girls. The girls have always done everything together with Julia being the more dominant twin. They move to London and take up residence in the flat. Valentina has asthma and has a heart valve that hasn't been properly formed, making her slightly ill.

Wow -many thanks!

I've read one book by Niffenegger before, thus this will be an interesting read.

... and the book looks brand new!?

I'm in two minds about this book, I rather liked the first half, but the latter half was a bit too far fetched for me. I could live with the ghost bit, when Elspeth was felt as something cold, but then it just took off.

The fact that the book is set in one of my favourite spots in London was of course an added bonus whilst reading. I love Highgate Cemetry, it is one of these hidden secrets that is just waiting to be explored. All the descrpition from the cemetry took me right back.
I aslo want to visit the Postman's Park the next time I go to London. We shall see if I get the time to squeeze a visit in.

I also thought that Richard took the right choice at the very end of the book.

The cover photo is absoulutely gorgeous.

When I started on this book I realized I had read it in Norwegian quite some time ago. As stories go it is an ok read and I agree with Haugtussa in her opinion of it. I've been to London umphteen times, but never visited Highgate let alone Postman's Park. I'll go next time I go to London, so at least something constructive has come out of re-reading the story.

Found "Her Fearful Symmetry" by Audrey Niffenegger in front of the Luxembourg Gardens by the number 38 bus stop. It's in pretty good shape and I'm looking forward to reading it. Thanks to whoever left it! It seems to have been out of circulation since April 26, 2012.
All the best.
Troy
