This book is on the 1001 books to read before you die list.

Tess is a young beautiful maiden who has a lazy drunk for a father and a manipulative opportunist as a mother. At a young tender and naïve age she is raped and it haunts her. She soon meets the man with whom she falls in love. Tess does her best to maintain her distance as she feels unworthy, but she eventually marries Angel Clare. After their marriage, Tess tells Angel of her attack. And this sets the stage for Tess's eventual downfall.

What makes this novel a masterpiece is the emotional force and beauty of Tess's character. It’s Tess's pursuit of love, her dedication to the man she loves, that continues to draws you to her.
Tess of the D’Ubervilles is a novel about the destruction of innocence with two complex male characters. Alec and Angel – neither who deserve Tess’ love. The reader will find it impossible not to empathize with Tess.
Hardy's descriptions are so cleverly done that I felt as if I was in the story with the characters. I am only sorry that it has taken me so long to read this wonderful book.

Enjoy! Released for Leap Into the Wild, Oh, the Places We Can Go (Ville, France) Release Challenges 2016
