I cannot deny the expertise of the author- the way she drifted between two different stories was pleasant and easy to follow. However, I must warn the future reader that this is a very melancholy and grim read.

This is a lovely story based on a true event of a double murder in New Hampshire in the 1870s...... Jean travels to the island to photograph the island where the event happened, travelling by boat with her husband Thomas, their daughter Billie, Tom's brother Rich and his girlfriend Adaline. Not only does Jean discover the truth behind the trial, but a tragedy strikes the boat during a storm.
Sad story ...... Lovely book!
