I had this one in Mt. TBR once upon a time and gave it away without reading it - now I have another chance :)

I don't know why I waited so long to read this! I really liked this book for several reasons. I am interested in fiction and non-fiction on how Japanese-Americans were treated in the US during WWII and have read quite a few books with this subject. Also I loved the Pacific Northwest island setting and the strawberry farming (and I can picture this). And finally, I thought the characters were well-developed (I enjoyed reading about their backgrounds) and the story moved along well and just drew me in. The only tiny negative thing I have to say about this is that the ending, while it tied things together well, left me wondering about what the characters would do in the future. And that's really a sign of a good book to me - the author got me to care enough to wonder.
