A Newbery Award Book.
Life is hard in medieval England - especially for the orphaned Alyce. But she is able
to find a place for herself as a midwife's apprentice. Good book, although I think
I more enjoyed "Catherine, Called Birdy" by the same author.

I picked this book up (along with Catherine, called Birdy) from the book buffet at the BCinDC convention. I'm looking forward to reading this award winner. Thanks DrSlump612!
I enjoyed reading this children's book, set in medieval times. It sounds realistic and is an interesting read.
One of my BCinDC buddies has this on her wishlist, so it'll be travelling with me to Gaithersburg on Saturday, for their book festival, and it will be given to another BCer.

Gave this to Melydia Saturday, at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. It was on her wish list. Enjoy!
MaryZee gave me this wishlist book at the Gaithersburg Book Festival - thanks! When we put together the convention DVD, I fell in love with several of the authors interviewed and ended up putting a bunch on my wishlist, including this one. I think I'll like it, especially since I so enjoyed Catherine, Called Birdy. Thanks!
Beetle is an orphan in a nameless village somewhere in England during the reign of Edward I. When she’s found keeping warm one winter in a dung heap, the local midwife takes her in as a servant. Though Beetle’s journey to discover her name and place in this world is sweet, I was more interested in the descriptions of daily life during the Middle Ages. It’s a short book, easily finished in a sitting or two, but well worth the read.
Passing this along to my friend crrcookie, who was interested in reading it.
Edit: I guess it never made it to Cookie's hands. Oh well; I'll find her another copy sometime.

I picked up this one from the Book Buffet table at the BCinDC meetup today. Thank you, Melydia! It's slated to be donated to the PTA Book Swap at Mount Vernon Community School, so that children whose families don't own enough books to swap can still take some home.
