This is an audiocassette version of Doreen Tovey's "More Cats in the Belfry," one of her series of funny and touching autobiographical books about her Siamese cats, other pets, and neighbors. "Cats in the Belfry" and "Cats in May," the first two books, are my favorites - in fact, in my opinion "Cats in the Belfry" is a classic among cat-books. But this one has its own charm, although in the beginning it's rather poignant; Tovey's husband Charles has died, and several of the previous Siamese have as well, so for a while it's a litany of loss... In part this is just Tovey catching the readers up on what happened to the animals mentioned in previous books, but there have been recent losses as well. After one cat went missing, Tovey finally decided that the remaining cats will only go out if she's there to watch them every minute. High time, too...

The story's not all somber, by any means. Tovey's a practical woman, and though she clearly misses Charles and thinks of him often, is quite prepared to figure out how to chain-saw her own firewood when she has to. There does seem to be more about the other villagers in this book, perhaps because there's no Charles to chat about, but the cats somehow wind up starring in most of the anecdotes - like the one where Tovey has locked herself out of the house after the cats have been locked in for long enough to have dire need of fresh litterboxes. Tovey rushes from window to window trying to find a way in, while the cats follow her around from inside, yowling in best Siamese fashion and making dire threats directed at the drapes... [There's some "senior moment" stuff going on here that had me laughing out loud. There, but for the grace of God, go I...]

This is an ex-library copy, but the tapes are all in very good condition.

Journal Entry 6 by AmberLee17 from Stockton, California USA on Saturday, September 6, 2003
Oops, this came in earlier this week -- Thursday and just getting caught up. I adore my cats and look forward to listening to this book.

Hmmm, I have some Toveys in my family tree -- I wonder if the author is a distant relation?

I FINALLY finished this and it is in the mail to Leitora; P.O. estimates it will arrive Fri. 5 Dec.

I laughed, cried and most of the emotions in between with these great tapes. I apologize for taking so dang long with them. At first I was freaked out (stupidly so) because a friend had recently loaned me her FAVORITE book on tape and it died in my machine. I had SUCH horrors of being the cause of another tape fatality... One I 'got back on the horse' so to speak, I was delighted and enthralled with Tovey's writings. I could SO imagine the cat adventures. Thank you for introducing me to a new author who has brought me such joy. It was also rather nice to be able to 'read' a book while doing holiday preparation. (We have just finished our Thanksgiving holiday here in the states and I had a LOT of prep work to do...)

Sorry I was so remiss about keeping this ring timely.

I really enjoyed my first Audiobook experience. It's a pity we don't have these here in Portugal. It was like being told a tale when you were about 6/8 years old... wonderfull.. relaxing.. and the delicious british accent! :)

Besides the story was basicly about cats, and I live with 3 cats myself.. they are wonderfull companions.. :)

Thank you GoryDetails for the opportunity! :)
