Grabbed at yesterdays Ladies Night MeetUp! Thanks a lot for bringing it along :-)


Avery Baker was once a New York designer, but inheriting her aunt’s old Maine cottage has led her down a new career path—home renovation. Now, with help from hunky handyman Derek Ellis, Avery starts learning the ABCs of DIY. But when the designer-turned-renovator finds clues that lead to a missing professor, she wonders if she can finish the house—without getting finished off in the process.

I picked up this book on a whim and it proved to be a pleasant surprise and enjoyable read.
The book is never overladen with grout and sandpaper, but the characters are always working on the house, bringing the old Victorian back to life.
As mysteries go, this one was an easy read. Sure, I guessed whodunnit, but the author achieved a combination of mystery, light romance, and home repair in a nice balance.

thanks for the book!

That was a nice and cozy read, although it is very early clear, who is the rotten apple... Still the slow growing love story, the improving house and the murder investigation is interesting to read about and when Avery has been put into the dark storage room, it gets a little bit thrilling. Of course she can survive, gets her handyman and eventually has a beautiful house to live in...
