Colin Powell is an American hero, and someone I've admired for years, so I'm delighted to find a copy of his memoir on the Book Buffet. Thank you, stormysweetie, for sharing such a treasure!

A wonderful book, a wonderful person. Anyone who's ever heard him speak knows well how intelligent and articulate he is, so it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise to find out he's also an extremely good writer. He has an amazing memory for details, and a gift for picking out the ones that will bring a story to life. And throughout the book, he maintains a perfect balance between not taking himself too seriously, while treating with full respect the national and international issues he works on.

This is a great book for anyone who wants to read about a fascinating life, and especially for anyone interested in a career in the military or in any other form of public service. For me, because of my interest in politics, my favorite section was Part Three: The Washington Years. He's an informed and astute observer, and I loved his experiences inside the corridors of power.

And finally, check Colin Powell's Rules at the back of the book: short, simple, and powerful.

Colin Powell is an interesting person, just a bit full of himself, but then it takes a certain amount of self-confidence to be Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, a General, and a military leader. The book is a bit long and windy but interesting.
