Journal Entry 1 by dodau from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire United Kingdom on Saturday, July 31, 2010
My seventh box and it's a mystery first line one. All the books are wrapped and labeled with their first lines. It's a mix of fiction and usual rules. Take as many as you want, and replace with the same number roughly. Less if you have no space and more if you want to fill any gaps.(You know who you are). Try and keep it moving within the demands of real life. Journal it when you get it and when you send it on. If you want to post guesses as to what books are feel free and of course you may reveal here what the books you choose turn out to be. New members accepted all the time and will be added to the bottom of the list of particiapants.

received today many thanks, I took out "Well, thank god this is about to be over, I thought as I drove - well, blew - past the sign that marked the Westchester, Connecticut, city limits" (Ill Wind by Rachel Caine) "Imagine, if you can, a continent that for one quarter if the year, doubles in size." (Ice Station by Matthew Reilly) "Brain tissue clung like wet, grey lint to the sleeves of Dr _______'s surgical gown, and the front of it was splashed with Blood." (Scarpetta by Patricia Cornwell) "Celik the turk took a sip of coffee." (Changing of the Guard by Perry & Segniff) I did pick another but it is one I have read before so will lovingly wrap it again and send it on it's way. Just need to find 4 book to replace the ones I took out and then it will be on it's way

Journal Entry 5 by yorkshire-lass at Maidstone, Kent United Kingdom on Friday, August 27, 2010
The box arrived with me this morning, what a surprise! This is going to be so difficult, how to chose from such cryptic first lines, it may take a while. I've decided on, "The faces of murder were varied and complex." Out of This World by J.D. Robb. "Who am I? and how, I wonder, will this story end?" The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. "Most days I wish I was a Brithis pound coin instead of an African girl." The Other Hand by Chris Cleave. "The scream was carried towards her by the gust of wind, then whiplashed away, leaving her face smarting with the sting of grit and shock." Dreamer by Peter James. I've spent most of the day picking out books with interesting first lines to replace what I've taken out. Just waiting to hear from Star69, and the the box will be ready to move on.

OK I have decided. I have taken out... "Where Else in the world would you go to work and find Your first customer to be Sir Elton John?" Resuce Me Melissa Wareham "The dog days of summer were upon them, New England sweltering in the late August heat as Martha, crab like darted in and out of the shade of Easton's canopies and store-front porches, the air shimmying above the baked ground as she attended to the messages scrawled on a notepad in the bottom of her purse." Miracle Woman Martina Conlon-Mckenna "Possessed of supreme strenth and of unrivaled courage, he was blessed by the gods, feared by the mortals, and desired by all women who saw him." Fantasy Lover Sherrilyn Kenyon Have enjoyed this bookbox alot it was a great idea. Will hopefully get it moving some time next week.

Released 1 yr ago (11/22/2010 UTC) at A Bookcrosser, -- By post or by hand/ in person -- United Kingdom CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Seayork asked to be skipped for now, the bookbox is going to Sterile. Sorry for the delay, I've had a lot on my plate lately and this box got sidelined for a bit longer than it should have -_- I took out: * "In my first memory, I am three years old and I am trying to kill my sister." * Around five-thirty I put down the book I'd been reading and started shooing customers out of the shop * For the better part of my life, I have been working with emotionally disturbed children. * The bedroom was dark, lit only by a sliver of brightness from the wall light in the basement well outside edging its way round the sides of the blind."

Journal Entry 17 by Lemon-Crisis at Birchington, Kent United Kingdom on Sunday, January 02, 2011
Right! Now that birthdays, Christmas & New Year are over with, I've picked some books! The numbers in brackets is how much I think I'll enjoy the book at first glance. Thank you to those who put my picks in! 1. 'The phone is ringing' - Playing with the Grown-ups by Sophie Dahl (2/5) 2. 'My father was one of the fittest men I have ever known.' - Johnno by David Malouf (2/5) 3. '"It pains me to the quick to make this observation about my only son, but James, for a Gatewood, you are queer stirrups, indeed"' - Miss Grimsley's Oxford Career by Carla Kelly (4/5) 4. 'Like most people I lived for a long time with my mother and father.' - Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson (3/5) 5. 'Monday 27 January' - Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding (3/5) 6. 'There are songs that come free from the blue-eyed grass, from the dust of a thousand country roads.' - The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller (2/5) Hmm, interesting mix. I did pick another one, but it was a book I'd already read so I rewrapped it and put it back. I have three books already wrapped to replace the ones I've taken out - I just need to decide on three or four more (depending on space). Will PM the next on the list for their address as I'll be posting the box this coming week :)

Posted off to riffraff today. Should be with you soon! :) I added five and a half books to replace the ones I took out. The 'half book' was used to fill a gap that wasn't big enough for a normal book. I enjoyed having this box, and I hope all the books in it find eager new readers!

OK, ready to go. I've put five in (no, I'm not telling you what they were!) and am taking four out, as follows: 'Beyond the window of my father's shop, midwinter light skims the snow' - "Light on Snow", by Anita Shreve. I've actually read this before, but I'll re-read it. 'Although his father had pictured for him a brilliant future in the army, Hervé Joncour had ended up earning his crust in an unusual career which, by a singular piece of irony, was not unconnected with a charming side that bestowed upon it a vaguely feminine intonation.' - "Silk" by Alessandro Baricco. 'Behind the mountain of Altnaveenan lies on of those deep and precipitous valleys, on which the practised eye of a distiller would dwell with delight, as a region not likely to be invaded by the unhallowed feet of the gauger and his red-coats.' - 'Take it easy'/'Kurzgeschichten'. I'm not sure that my German is good enough for the right-hand page, but the left-hand page should be easy enough. If nothing else, it'll be practice! 'The night before everything changes, an earthquake jolts me out of my sleep and I instinctively reach over for Tamara, but it isn't Tamara, of course, it's Hope.' - "Everything Changes" by Jonathan Tropper. Thank you dodau for organising this and everybody for participating - I've really enjoyed picking books, and dipping into the bran tub!

Journal Entry 25 by Ythan at Ellon, Scotland United Kingdom on Saturday, February 12, 2011
The books I have picked are: "Africa crouched low on the horizon, like a lion in ambush; tawny and gold in the early sunlight, seared by the cold of the Benguela current." (A Falcon Flies - Wilbur Smith) "In the fabled, glittering world that was St Petersburg before the First World War there lived, in an ice-blue palace overlooking the river Neva, a family on whom the gods seemed to have lavished their gifts with an almost comical abundance." (The Secret Countess - Eva Ibbotson) "Holly held the blue cotton sweater to her face and the familiar smell immediately struck her, an overwhelming grief knotting her stomach and pulling at her heart." (PS, I Love You - Cecelia Ahern) "How to feel happy, strong, uplifted, tingly, Light free and altogether bloody fantastic: Drink Champagne Eat chocolate and have three orgasms in the afternoon..." (Perfect Alibis - Jane Wenham-Jones) "Imagine it: a dry, cool day, the high-piled cumulus clouds moving slowly from northwest to southeast in the sky, their shadows following them across the hayfields yet to be cut for the last time this year." (The World Below - Sue Miller) I've put in: "They exited the highway at Porter Avenue under a sign that read 'Peace Bridge to Canada'." "Everyone agreed that the day was just right for the picnic to Hanging Rock - a shimmering summer morning warm and still, with cicadas shrilling all through breakfast from the loquat trees outside the dining-room windows and bees murmuring above the pansies bordering the drive." "12 June 1942 I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support." "There are things you ought to know about Tom Drummond." "Scotland is renowned for its dramatic scenery, but the wildlife that inhabits it is rather less familiar." Was lots of fun picking, unwrapping and wrapping up. A feast for the eyes and the hands. :)

Got this box in the post today and very excited... been looking forward to it! Found it quite easy to pick eight books with interesting first lines pasted to them (yes, two thirds of the box!) and relatively easy to pick eight to replace them with... just need to wrap them up and do the first lines. Watch this space for details.
