This is part of the Wildflowers miniseries. Although I liked much of VC Andrews' earlier works better than the more recent things written by the ghostwriter, I have to say that it is all pretty much the same idea. Young woman, some kind of challenge (usually monetary), discovers secret connection to rich family. Some "bad" lover comes in the way (either related, a rapist, or just overall bad news). Also, the heroine has a special gift of some kind (musical, acting, writing, etc.). In the end, the protagonist triumphs over the challenges presented to her.
