Great. Liked this edition enough to ask for a copy for Christmas. Now I have a copy to keep this one will go on its merry (sombre might be more apt) way.

In the pursuit of accuracy I was tempted to measure this huge volume before writing this journal entry since I couldn't decide whether to call it a brick or a doorstop or a .... However, after much consideration, I've settled for doorstep! So, thank you very much, LyzzyBee for this rather large doorstep which I'm sure I'm going to enjoy - ' enjoy' being another word-choice I could have agonised over (LOL!)
I've had Dante's Inferno on my wish list for a while as one of those books that I ought to read, and do want to read, but was a little wary of actually reading! Having a copy, especially such a beautiful edition, is definitely a step in the right direction, thank you very much! For a few years now I've been making an effort to fill some of the many gaps in my knowledge of the classics by reading one a month, defined for this exercise as published pre-WW1 and preferably pre-1900. This will join that queue, probably getting to the top over the summer, possibly being spread over a couple of months! I'll report back when I've finished it.
It was good to see you on Wednesday while I was staying with family in Birmingham. I enjoyed taking time out to meet with you and Brumbie, Heaven-Ali and Katisha50, so thanks again for getting us together.

Well, what can I say? I've read it! I was aiming for a canto-plus-accompanying notes-a-day, with a final day for the additional notes/essays at the end, which meant it should have taken me 35 days - but I didn't make it, nowhere near! It's not easy reading - I never thought it would be and have had my expectations confirmed. There were days when I was 'under the weather' and really couldn't give it the necessary concentration. And it was definitely too big to put in my suitcase for holiday reading! But I've done it now - and feel quite proud of myself! I'm delighted to tick it off my mental list of Classics I Think I Ought to Read and Why Haven't I Already Done So? I fully admit I won't be continuing with the rest of the Divine Comedy ....

Thanks again, LyzzyBee. I won't be posting this anywhere. Perhaps I'll take it the UK Unconvention in Colchester in September to see if another BookCrossser fancies diving in! It's almost big enough (LOL!)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

To non-BookCrossing friend (JR)

Over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 well over 9 million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't cost anything and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
