from abxc-Oct; wonderful relationship book, but a bit too tidy at the end. Terry, a state trooper & Laura's twin girls drowned 2 years ago - and Terry is chafing about how Laura has changed. Enter Alfred, a black 10yo foster boy, who Laura takes too and Terry doesn't. The retired teacher across the street takes Alfred under his wing and teaches him about horses and the black "buffalo soldiers", who Alfred starts idolizing. In the meantime, Terry has an affair that results in the girl getting pregnant. Now what does he do? Leave Laura, whom he still loves? Playing 'house' with Phoebe, who he doesn't love isn't right either. How to end the mess?
