Back of Book:

When Terri Raines was twenty-seven years old, she took a holiday that changed her life. Leaving behind her wildlife rescue work in the United States, Terri travelled to Australia and there, at a small wildlife park, she met and fell in love with a tall, blond force of nature named Steve Irwin. They were married in less than a year, and Terri eagerly joined in Steve's conservation work. Together, Steve and Terri began to change the world.

In Steve and Me, Terri Irwin recounts the unforgettable adventures they shared - wrangling venomous snakes, saving deadly crocodiles from poachers, swimming among humpback whales - and portrays her husband as he really was.

Steve and Me is a non-stop adventure, a real-life love story and a fitting tribute to a man adored by all those whose lives he touched, written by the woman who knew and loved him best of all.

My Review:

Found this book really easy to read. I enjoyed reading about all their adventures, I definitely couldn't do what they do/have done. Think I'll stick to owning more domesticated creatures and donating to various causes involved in conservation, rather than being so dedicated and involved as they are.

I first came across Steve Irwin on tv running after snakes, picking them up then wiping the venom off his face with a bottle of water, thought he was completely nuts but couldn't stop watching him. He just lured me into watching him with his enthusiastic presenting style. I know him and his family accept the way he died but 40 years later would have been better or seem more acceptable, in my opinion.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't realize I had people waiting, I'm almost done-had to take a break b/c it was so sad (not like I don't know how it ends).

Journal Entry 7 by TwiggySC1973 at Woodruff, South Carolina USA on Tuesday, April 26, 2011
I knew it would be a sad book and it was sad when Steve died. It was gut wrenching to know the Croc' Hunter would pass away admist wildlife. But Terri's story shows the great passion Steve had for all of animals and the hard work he did day in and day out to make sure they would survive.

To me the story shows that we don't ever know what's going to happen in life and that we must stop and smell the flowers. Life is precious and so are the animals, they are here on this earth to provide humans the intelligence to make better choices for us as well as for them.

Winging its way to sfogs in New Zealand!

Journal Entry 11 by Sfogs at Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Tuesday, October 4, 2011
It has arrived safely, though unfortunately just before an important university test.
I'll get on to it soon~!!!

This book made me laugh, and definatly had me crying. Steve was one of my heros growing up, I just couldn't believe it when
dad told me he had died.
However the things he has taught people will live on!
We need to stop the destruction of the natural world,
fauna AND flora. And never take the water in the tap, or the earth under your feet for granted, it may decide to move. As taught to me
by the 7.1 magnitute earthquake and the many, many aftershocks.
This world is amazing and should be treated with respect.

P.S*** DON'T BUY CROCODILE SKIN PRODUCTS OR STUFFED CROCS, AS IT JUST SUPPORTS CROCODILE FARMS!
***LOOK AFTER OUR OCEANS WHALES, NO POINT IN MISSING THEM ONCE THEY ARE ALREADY GONE!

This book was AMAZING. Terri and Steve's courtship rivals any made up love story I have ever read or heard about. As a couple they were amazing. Most of this book reads like a rollicking fun adventure, though I did find myself slowing down toward the end to delay the inevitable sad ending. The loss of Steve Irwin is such a tragedy. But what a wonderful and lovingly written homage to him. Thanks for sharing this!

I enjoyed this book right from the beginning. Steve had such a powerful personality and thanks to Terri, this book has taken me to places I always dreamed to go...
Although I knew the end of the book, I was not prepared to feel this profound sadness. The story continues with Terri, Bindi and Robert.

I'm sure most fans of Steve Irwin felt connected to him on a personal level. That was one of his true gifts in front of a camera.

"Steve and Me" is a detailed love story, as well as a modern tale of tragedy and triumph that should be enjoyed by all who enjoy life, realistic romance, animals, and mankind. Terri, in her own words, gives wonderful glimpses into the man we all saw on the TV screen. She shows him with his faults and struggles, but gives him honor on every page as she reveals his true heart for the world around him. In the conclusion, she is respectful yet candid about her dealings with her husband's passing, focusing instead on the wonder of his life.

There are numerous stories full of humor and danger and factual knowledge. This is a fantastic collection and memoir, a great ode to one of the world's most renowned "wildlife warriors," and an encouragement to every married couple, every son and daughter, anyone with a dream to change the world around them.

I like Steve Irwin and his documentaries very much, but my favourite film maker and croc hunter is:

Malcolm Douglas (14 March 1941 – 23 September 2010), an Australian wildlife documentary film maker ("In The Bush With Malcolm Douglas", "Across the Top" and more than 50 other documentaries and films), and crocodile hunter. Douglas started in the 1960s as a professional crocodile hunter, but later dedicated himself to their preservation at his Wilderness Park in Broome, Western Australia.
