The science fiction classic - I bought an extra copy of this to bookray.

I won't try to write a review as I read this quite a while ago and very quickly - I think I need a re-read! I do remember it being quite complex and I enjoyed it more than I expected to, but if you want reviews you'll have to check amazon! PM me to join the ray and I'll get it sent out soon!

My girlfriend Paganfrog requested this book for me to read, and that done, now I'm to review it (or so I'm told!)

If anyone has seen the film or the TV mini-series, let me just say that the book is sooooo much better. The film versions are fine, but with a story so complex and so rich with characters, something of the story had to be sacrificed or they would last for hours on end.
The settings and language still feel so original almost 40 years after it was written, it is small wonder that many other books in this series were written to equal success, and many other author's tried to emulate Herbert's style and creativity.
You might say that thanks to books like this, we have the rich choice in the fantasy and SF genres that we do today.
If you have even the slightest interest in this book ~ read it! Don't be put off by the strange terms and titles that you read at first. The world that Herbert has created will draw you in, and by the end of the book the language will be second nature.
It's just a shame that the film stood no chance to convey the plot of such an involved story.
If it had been a bigger hit, perhaps the book would've been even MORE successful!
Great read.
Thanks to Deerskin for letting me read it.

My appologies for taking so long to read this book, but time has been very scarce and so I've taken a "little" longer to start reading it. As soon as I finish the book I'm reading right now I'll start with Dune.

It's impressive how much was left out when the movie was made! The book is very intense in thoughts and of its pillars being the evolution of manking made the book go over my prespectives.

it was a very good book and not what i expected at all, i'm kind of fearful of books that got alot of fan followings :) but this was good and with a solid story and actually i don't think i would like to read the sequels. thought it too complete for it to go on. the only thing that was strange, though i don't know if i liked it or disliked it, was all those arabic words there, i wasn't able to find if herbert used the arabic with some motive and thought behind it, or did he wanted to creat some exotic language and didn't want to bother and so settled on arabic with the belief that arabic and klingon are around the same lines :) anyway was pretty strange for me, as i could understand alot of the arabic and using "mahdi" and "lisan'al ghaib" was wayyyyyyyyyy strange!
thanks powerslave for mailing it this way, thanks deerskin for the ray and awaiting instructions of where next

This arrived today! This is one of those books that I always heard about and saw a lot and thought about reading but never did. Then I decided to read all the books that made the BookCrossers top 100, and there it was on the list! I have another book ring book I just started a couple of days ago, and one more waiting after it, so it may be a few days before I start this one.

Well, I didn't finish this book. I just had so much trouble getting into it and staying with the storyline, frankly it just bored me. So I finally gave up. Maybe if I'd read this book when I was younger, I used to devour anything that was science fiction and/or fantasy, so I probably would have enjoyed it more then. Anyway, it's now on it's way to cory000.
