I loves this TV series and couldn't resist when I saw this book.
I love this mini-series and it's something I can watch again and again. Miranda Richardson as Mab is fantastic, and whenever I think of a pagan witch type deity, I think of her!
The book is basically the screen play for the series. If you're not used to reading scripts, then it can be a bit hard to follow, as it doesn't have the complete magic that prose fiction normally has. Likewise, it's easier to follow if you have at least seen the series. That said, it's still a brilliant story, a great twist on the mythology of Merlin and Arthur. I really like the ending too - a sad, yet prosaic way of defeating Mab (although I think I'd prefer a return to the 'old' ways!).
The book also contains a Synopsis, which is actually a bit of shame, as it tells the complete story just as you're about to read the complete story! Skip it if you don't want it ruined.
The Interviews with the Stars are ok, but I hate the whole luvvy-dovey actor speak, where everyone was a joy to work with and the filming was a real journey of character - it's a job, a fun job, but still a job! The Biographies are interesting, but a bit out of date - it did make me laugh to read that Helena Bonham-Carter hasn't done any really dark roles - ummm, as far as I know that's all she's really done ;)
But overall this is a good read, very enjoyable and made me want to dig out my old VHS copy of the mini-series. I'm sure its being shown somewhere on Sky!
