Nickolai of the North

Something my Mum bought last year, which has been passed to me to bookcross - I have them all so well trained.
The elf kingdom was created at the North Pole when the Lights in the sky touched the ground. The Elves were born from rock, each with his or her own Light fairy to keep their magic alive. But when wicked elf Magda escapes from her prison, she takes back the fairies and turns the Elves back to stone. Only Nickolai escapes, rescued by Comet, one of teh magical flying reindeer. As he grows up in the human world, he knows he is different. His pointed ears twitch and he can speak to the animals.
Magda meanwhile has created a city of gold, where humans are lured with promises if riches and ease. But there is a price to pay and when Nickolai and his friends arrive there, they refuse to pay it. Fighting to bring down Magda, they need to release the light fairies and bring the Elves back to life before its too late.
This is a really good story about how Santa Claus was born. I love the different strands of myth that are woven together and the author has done a good job of making it believable. An enjoyable read.
