Shallow taken in itself, as all of Patterson's books are ... but fun nonetheless and the characterizations are, after all, meant to be shaped and filled by their elaboration throughout the full series of these books. The plot started out interestingly, and the tale was engagingly told so it was quick read ... but it took a predictable angle. It just wasn't tough enough to uncover the two 'perpetrators' of crimes here, to keep my interest ... just asking around long enough was all the detective work seemingly required. I much prefer more deeply engaging mystery plotlines, and the classic mystery authors who really know how to weave a complex tale and take a story in unexpected directions. But hey, it was a nice little romp if you don't expect too much of it.
