Journal Entry 4 by oliviapoolside at Seattle, Washington USA on Wednesday, August 17, 2011
read, offered and released. Details to follow. This book crossed my line of 'when reading becomes a chore rather than a pleasure'. I really didn't like anything about it; well maybe I liked how Ryan Evans was what we imagine our elite American soldiers to be. He was strong, intelligent, compassionate, ethical and he wasn't stopped by any force except his own moral code. A hero. But the scenarios in this book! Nothing totally made sense to me. Not the Iraqi scenes, not the Boneman, not the DA, not Evan's wife. There were so many loose ends and dead bodies. The ending is both interesting and disappointing in that the sun doesn't come out and the birds don't sing. The end is really creepy to my mind. It did not seem like a clear cut happy ending. Maybe that is what people like about this book. I don't enjoy the serial killer genre in general, but at least if it makes sense then one can admire a well turned out story. This book is all action, leaving a trail of dead bodies and reader (at least this reader) incomprehension as to the killer's motivations and what bombs dropped in Iraq had to do with it.
