I heard such good things about these books, so bought them as they came out. So far, I haven't had a chance to read them, but am looking forward to it.

I think my review of this book can be summed up by one of the characters, speaking to Bella: "You are bizarre, even for a human."
Her boyfriend leaves, she goes into meltdown. Tries to do lots of dangerous things just to break a promise and hear his voice. Starts being friendly with another boy, flirts with becoming his girlfriend, then abandons him to rescue boy 1 from killing himself in Italy. Then makes him feel guilty because he won't turn her into a vampire.
If it hadn't have mentioned it in the book, I would have thought Bella was 13, not 18. And so selfish! Most of this book seems to be her agonising over doing something without hurting others, then going ahead and doing it anyway with little thought about the consequences.
Anyway, once accepting that Bella was not going to be the sort of liberated female character that would sort out her own problems, instead of moaning over not having a Prince in her life, I kind of liked the rest of the story. While not understanding how a century old Vampire could be such a wimp about the loss of a loved one, I quite liked the adventure in Italy and these chapters were probably the best. Probably because they contain 'proper' vampires.
So, vaguely entertaining and readable in the sense that I'm vaguely interested in whether Bella gets her way, or she trips over something and ends it all anyway! But I still prefer my vampires to be monsters and would recommend a bevy of books over this one.
