Bitter is the New Black

Given to me by my sister.
Jen Lancaster was living the sweet life-until real life kicked her to the curb.
She had the perfect man, the perfect job-hell, she had the perfect life-and there was no reason to think it wouldn't last. Or maybe there was, but Jen Lancaster was too busy being manicured, pedicured, highlighted, and generally adored to notice.
This is the smart-mouthed, soul-searching story of a woman trying to figure out what happens next when she's gone from six figures to unemployment checks and she stops to reconsider some of the less-than-rosy attitudes and values she thought she'd never have to answer for when times were good.
Filled with caustic wit and unusual insight, it's a rollicking read as speedy and unpredictable as the trajectory of a burst balloon.

Got it today and read it today (am recovering from surgery, plenty of reading time) so its ready to move on. Yay!
Except when I try to find the next person, Ri, the search tells me that member doesn't exist. I'm pming the next person maybe they could send it on to Ri if they can find them. (search says need more than two characters to do a search btw)
BTW I enjoyed the book :)

Arrived safe and sound this afternoon. I'll start it as soon as I finish my current read.

Absolutely hilarious! Some friends recommended Jen's books to me at the beginning of the summer so I was thrilled to find this being offered as a ring. Those friends were right on the ball with their recommendation. I just hope everyone enjoys this one as much as I did.
It's on its way to Maria in Ohio as of this morning. Release notes to come.

Off to Ohio!
Well what a small world! Turns out mrsboknows is a high school classmate of my husband! Yes, this is one of the many reasons I love bookcrossing! Thanks so much for sending this book along. I am in the middle of another bookring book right now, but I should get to this one very soon. :)
I dropped this in the mail to agrace several days ago, but due to my birthday festivities, I am only journalling now.
I found the first third or so of the book tedious. Sure, Jen is funny, but I also found her completely distasteful. I felt like I've known so many of her type and generally try to avoid them. Sometimes she was bitingly funny, but as a character, not a real person.
The next third of the book, I began to warm up to her. I actually found myself interested in her journey. In the final third, I really enjoyed her and found myself unable to put the book down. I was moved by her evolution of spirit while retaining her humor. By the end of the book, I had put all of her other books on my wishlist and checked out her blog.
Overall, a good read that gets better and better. If you find yourself wanting to put it down early on, stick with it. It moves past what seems like a chick lit memoir into a quite moving story.

Was checking to see who gets this book next and realized that I neglected to journal it when it arrived; sorry!
Very fun book. I agree with Ri that it gets better as it goes along.
