Journal Entry 1 by Sherlockfan from Upper Hutt, Wellington Province New Zealand on Sunday, June 06, 2010
Passed on to me by a favoured sister-in-law for release through Bookcrossing. Does not look like my special interest, thrillers and forensic science type books, but I think I know someone who might like this book. I have listened to radio excerpts from Lake Woebegon on Wednesday evenings when coming home from meetings and they contain a high degree of what could be described as humour with pathos. Some one will enjoy this. Editorial Review - Publishers Weekly vol. 255 iss. 33 p. 43 (c) 08/18/2008 Clint Bunsen of Keillor's Lake Wobegon is planning his sixth Fourth of July celebration, but by the time it rolls around he's been booted from the planning committee; his wife, Irene, is chillier than ever; and his 60-something hormones have him lusting after the much-younger Angelica Pflame, whose “commando” performance as the Statue of Liberty in last year's parade is still a hot topic in the sleepy burg. In other words, everything's as you'd expect in a Keillor novel. There are quite a few subplots bubbling along quietly until everything erupts in a madcap denouement that combines elements of the Keystone Kops, I Love Lucy and Monty Python. Keillor's pacing and command of smalltown plot is impeccable; just at the moment when Clint's obsession with a genealogical discovery has become unbearable, the rug gets pulled out from under him. It's a Keillor novel that does what Keillor novels do: entertain and color nicely within the lines. (Sept.)

Journal Entry 3 by MrPloppy at Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Thursday, June 24, 2010
Was given this by FutureCat via Sherlockfan ... or is it the other way round??? Anyway, not entirely sure I'll read this since I'm not a great fan of Garrison Keilor. He seems to me to be a bit too cosy, and I'm not a great fan of his small town US homespun rather sentimentalist philosophy (see his radio programme for more of that). But you never know. I may still have a go. I'll need something fluffy to read once I've finished the one I'm reading (don't ask :D). Anyway thanks Sherlockfan. Your far too kind :D.
