This book is a replacement for this bookray that went MIA during its journey.

A must-read for all Poirot & Christie fans! I discovered Anne Hart after joining AgnesXNitt's ring for The Life and Times of Miss Jane Marple and just couldn't resist reading this book as well;o) Having read most of Poirot's "adventures", I found it very interesting to read about the chronology of it all. A great read!

Synopsis:
The definitive companion to the POIROT novels, films and TV appearances. 'My name is Hercule Poirot and I am probably the greatest detective in the world.' The dapper, moustache-twirling little Belgian with the egg-shaped head, curious mannerisms and inordinate respect for his own 'little grey cells' has solved some of the most puzzling crimes of the century. Yet despite being familiar to millions, Poirot himself has remained an enigma -- until now. From his first appearance in 1920 to his last in 1975, from country-house drawing-rooms to opium dens in Limehouse, from Mayfair to the Mediterranean, Anne Hart stalks the legendary sleuth, unveiling the mysteries that surround him. Sifting through 33 novels and 56 short stories, she examines his origins, tastes, relationships and peculiarities, revealing a character as fascinating as the books themselves.

I really liked to read this book, but it was a bit too long - everything was said at least twice. On the whole I prefered the book about Miss Marple, as it told me more than was written in the books. ;-)))

I'm sorry for having kept the book so long - as soon as Simson-Shilitoe tells me that he didn't move after sending his address in september I'll pass the book on.

The book arrived safely in Saturday`s mail alongside with "Odd and the Frost Giants".

At the moment I am reading "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson, another bookring started by "chich". I will finish this book on Sunday. Then it will be followed by Neil Gaiman`s "Odd and the Frost Giants" (only 97 pages).

So I hope to start with "The Life and Times of Hercule Poirot" soon.

Thank you "chich" for sharing.

Thank you "CaptainCarrot" for posting and the Thatched House postcard from Sylt.

Journal Entry 9 by Simson-Shilitoe at Neewiller-près-Lauterbourg, Alsace France on Friday, December 31, 2010
Finished the book only one hour before midnight but just in the old year.

A good and interesting read and biography about Hercule Poirot. I have learned many new details about this famous detective by reading this book.

I have seen some of the motion pictures very often and my favourite actor as Poirot is still Sir Peter Ustinov ("Death on the Nile", "Evil Under the Sun").

Posting to " Kirstykat" as soon as I get an address.

Will be followed now by Ray Bradbury`s "Fahrenheit 451".

Best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year 2011!

An interesting read. I have read most of the books featuring Poirot but not a lot of the short stories - I will have to search them out.

A lot of information I hadn't realised.
