10 out of 10

Second copy which I ordered from The Book Depository for rockyhorror1978 in Canada for the best of 2009 swap. This was one of my favorite books that I'd read in 2009. Hope you will enjoy it just as much babe.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. But Katniss has been close to death before - and survival, for her, is second nature. "The Hunger Games" is a searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present. Welcome to the deadliest reality TV show ever...

Wow! What a phenomenal book! I couldn't put it down and read it in 24 hours! It has been a long time since I have read a book like this since reading the Harry Potter series! This is definitely one of the best books I have read this year! I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

I really enjoyed the landscape that Collins developed for this book, a Marxist backdrop for a great adventure. The tone has been set for an uprise against the Capitol, which was appropriately described as self-indulging and phoney. The contrast between the Districts and the Capitol were also eloquently described and the friendship between Katniss and Rue was a great opportunity for development of the other Districts and I hope that Collins decides to explore this more in subsequent books.

Thanks to CrazyDutchwoman for sharing this book with me! I am going to share it with a co-worker's son who has been waiting to read this book too.
