Journal Entry 1 by Nauris from Helsinki, Uusimaa Finland on Tuesday, May 11, 2010
From the back cover: "Seven-year-old Loukoum, the "Little Prince" of Belleville, innocently chronicles the daily life of the African immigrant population he belongs to in Paris. As he becomes more aware of what is happening around him, so the conflicts of cultures, the spectre of racism, and the deception of adult behaviour emerge. Calixthe Beyala sensitively examines immigrant society through comedy in this highly readable and entertaining novel." This was a quick and easy read. The story was from Loukoum's point of view and often the world of adults seemed incomprehensible and full of suffering and saddness. I wasn't so keen on this book but I think it's a good reminder of how different lives people can have depending on the time and place in history.
