Picked this up at a second-hand bookstore for relatively cheap (thanks Moriquen for the suggestion!) Won a bunch of prizes, including the Man Booker Prize in 2003, and some other ones, including for comic writing. Had to check it out.

From the back: "The riotous adventures of fifteen-year-old Vernon Gregory Little in small-town Texas and beach-front Mexico mark one of the most spectacularly irreverant, satiracally acute and critically acclaimed debuts of the 21st century so far."

Wow. High praise.... Let's give it a whirl!

This was a pretty good book actually--- at first i didn't get into it so much, but i got swept up in the language and the story and eventually fell a little bit in 'like' with Vernon. Just a crazy mixed-up kid, wise beyond his years, who got swept away in other people's ridiculousness and failures. But despite all of the flaws in every character and in societyt itself, DCB Pierre also seems to love his characters, and humanity generally.

It was a fun, tense, surreal romp through the chaos of Vernon and his life. The writer has an amazing ability to create a narrative style--- such a love of words. And the ending was everything i kinda hoped it would be. Well done. I will look for more from this guy!

Easily one of the best books I've read this year. Extraordinarily well written, capturing the mind of that most difficult demographic, 16 year old teenage boys. I was hooked from the fourth page! Can't wait to pass this on to people. Very funny, especially in DBC Pierre 's depiction of modern-day America, you will enjoy!!

Also, love this BookCrossing idea!
