Thank you very much, dotdot! I've been wanting to read this for ages.
Oh dear, I really wanted to like this, but... I was expecting an insightful look behind the veils, learn a bit more about Saudi culture and society, see some stereotypes shattered. Instead I got a load of naive and superficial talk about regional and sexual stereotyping, and badly written (or translated) to boot. The introductions at the beginning of each chapter didn't add anything and neither did the countless footnotes, which mostly felt like overexplaining (other readers too, I'm sure, have heard about Ramadan). I understand, of course, why the book was sensored in Saudi Arabia. What I don't understand are the numerous positive reviews it has garnered in, at least, the British media.
On its way to the winner of the Global Sweepstakes.
Arrived yesterday. Thank you!
