"I am a witch" is the first statement in this book. AT the time, that was a pretty brave and bold thing to say. Even now, its sometimes pretty brave and bold to say (I am a Pagan - a witch, living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where my own inlaws consider me a Satanist). This book was written in 1968, long before the "neo-Pagan" movement had a name. VERY interesting reading for anyone who is Pagan, or who is interested in Paganism.

The book came in foovay's book box. It had lost its cover in the travels (which I've reattached). I plan to read it and release it on a book relay. :)

Diary of a Witch has some very fascinating chapters, especially the one where she attended an all girls school, the time she lived with Gypsies and her initial start in television as a reporter. The last third of the book as she came to the present (at the time of the writing) the book's pacing began to stall. The last three chapters diverge from the biography of her life and her balance between her beliefs and private vs. public lives and are instead essays on her beliefs. The problem I had with them, is I'm a skeptic. I think for someone who is genuinely interested in astrology, reincarnation and ESP will get more out of these final chapters than I did.

I had heard, briefly, of Sybil Leek before reading this book, but I really knew very little about her. What an amazing life she led. It was enjoyable to read this book because of the information in it as well as the easy-going writing style. I didn't believe everything she wrote (like about astrology), but she had a lot of good things to say about life in general.

Received this book today! Thanks, karendawn, I've been looking forward to reading it! It is in quite delicate shape, but I hope if I'm careful with it, it'll have a few more adventures still. :D
