On the Other Hand, Death: A Donald Strachey Mystery
4 journalers for this copy...
This was the first Don Strachey book I ever read, but as that was a library book it's taken me a while to pick up a copy of my own. I was motivated by the release of the 2008 film based on the book, one of several adaptations of Stevenson's books. (They're pretty good, too!)
This is the second book in the series about a gay PI who's happily settled with his congressional-aide lover Timmy in Buffalo NY. The book combines mystery with the ups and downs of Strachey's love life; his wandering eye (and other bits) tend to get him into trouble, and while Timmy is quite long-suffering even he has his limits. [Hilarity ensues.] The main case here involves an elderly lesbian couple who've been subjected to vandalism and threats, apparently to force them to sell out to a land-grabbing company - but Strachey finds more complicated goings-on...

I'm putting this book in my LGBT-themed shrinking bookbox, which will soon be on its way to its first stop with quietorchid in Minnesota. Hope everyone enjoys the bookbox!
Never heard of this author, looks like an interesting mystery. Thanks for the bookbox!
Excellent hard boiled mystery. Plenty of twists and turns, this one will keep you guessing up until the last page. Written in 1984, it also does a pretty good job of describing the overt fog of homophobia that was present at the time. In good moods, I hope that has changed, in darker moods, I think its just gone underground. Ah well, good book.
Sent off to New York as a reconstitution of GoryDetails' shrinking GLBT bookbox.

Thanks for the books, I'll set them aside for when the box gets to me.
Added to GoryDetails' LGBT bookbox.
I have never read a Strachey book, but have enjoyed the Chad Allen films, so looking forward to delving into the print version!
