Normally I would never pick up this kind of book. Do you want to know what drew me to it and convinced me to buy it? The cover. Yep. I'm shallow. The cover of this book is quite pretty, depicting an artistic aerial view of the Golden Gate Bridge, blue sky, lots of clouds and fog. The end papers are a brilliant blue. I just love the look of this odd-shaped trade hardcover. Ok, so I also loved the fact that I got it for one dollar. It has gotten mixed reviews on Amazon, but that's ok. It seems like a light, quick, summer read. If you're interested in it, let me know. If there's enough interest, I'll start a ray or ring with it. From the jacket flap: "What I have to tell you is not easy to understand, impossible to accept. But if you will listen to my story--if you are willing to trust me--then maybe in the end you'll believe me. And it's very important that you, in particular, should believe me. For, without knowing it, you are the only person in the world I can share my secret with." What do you do when you find a stranger in your closet; particularly when she's surprised that you can even see her--and she can disappear and reappear at whim? What if she then tells you that her body is actually in a coma on the other side of town? Should you have her see a psychiatrist or should you consult one yourself? Or do you take a chance and believe in her, and allow yourself to be swept up in an extraordinary adventure? This is the beginning of the dilemma that Arthur, a young San Francisco architect, is faced with when he discovers Lauren in his apartment. Arthur is the only man who can share Lauren's secret, the only one who can see her, hear her, and talk to her when no one else so much as senses her presence. So when doctors prepare to end Lauren's physical care--which would destroy the magical bond she and Arthur cherish--he must find a way to save her. For, after all, it is only her love that can save him. If Only It Were True is a heartwarming love story impossible to forget, an adventure that is by turns breathtaking and hilarious--a captivating tale that evokes the essence of romance and our boundless capacity to believe. Marc Levy lived in San Francisco for six years before returning to France to run an architectural firm. He divides his time between America and Europe. If Only It Were True is his first novel and was an instant #1 bestseller in his homeland. Foreign rights have been sold in twenty-eight countries.

I read this in a couple of hours today while lounging out on the deck. This is perfect summer reading because it's light and quick, and you don't really have to put a lot of thought into it. This is a sweet story with some touching and humerous moments. This is not great literature, and the writing style is not anything astounding, but the story itself is captivating enough. I'm going to offer this as a bookring and see if there's any interest.
(US/Canada only at this time) Mailing order for this bookring:

This book finally arrived, after mellion108 and myself thinking it was lost in the mail! Better late than never I guess! I'm in the midst of reading two books right now, but once I've finished one, I'll begin on this one! I'll try not to keep this one too long, since it's already had such a delayed start!!

Oh my gosh, I am loving this book! I actually didn't start reading it until today, and I'm already halfway through it! If it wasn't for the fact that I have to get up very early for work, I'd probably be staying up late to finish it. I'm already impatiently turning pages to see what's going to happen, already touched by Arthur's devotion to Lauren and his willingness to do anything to help her. I'm anxious to finish this, but also don't want it to end! I'll write again once I'm done. :)

Resurrection I didn't realize that Mellion108 was trying to reach me about these books because I never got her PMs. I guess I've kept this bookway too long, but life gets in the way of my reading sometimes:( I'm mailing this off to the next person in line. Hopefully I'll have a chance to read it at a future time. Thanks for the opportunity and sorry to have kept the book so long.

I am humble before the bookcrossing gods...here is the long lost book. I've contacted the next person and off it goes. I understand the hopes and dreams of a bookring. Sorry. This was an interesting book...it didn't go where I thought, but that's good. It brought up a lot of memories about my grandmother. Also, there was a man (ghost) living in the closet of our last apartment. (Which is why I signed up for this in the first place.) So I had a lot of thinking to do about how we process these otherworldly experiences. Good for questioning reality.
