I read this book many years ago when I was in an Austen "kick". I really enjoyed it. Austen is a great writer... she is really fun to read.

The book arrived today. Thank you! And I didn't mind the wait as I've had plenty to read in the meantime. :)

I read this one a few years ago, but I was looking over my bookshelf and realized that my copy is missing. And of course I felt like rereading the book, so I'll add this copy to my TBR stack now.

9 out of 10

When I read this book a few years ago, I thought all but the ending (which I adored) to be so-so. This time around, I really enjoyed the entire book, perhaps in part because I knew what was coming up. Even so, the ending left me practically breathless and with a racing heart. I just love it.

One thing I found quite interesting was the inclusion of a suppressed chapter (the second-to-last chapter) which was replaced with a revision of two new chapters. Thank goodness for revision! Although the original was okay, it lacked the power of the revised version. So much would have been lost (including my favorite scene of the conversation between Anne and Harville about the constancy of love in men vs. women and then that letter!) had Austen not worked out a revision.

I have still to read the memoir of Jane Austen, but a bookray book came in so I need to read that one first and then come back to this memoir.

I had quite a few bookrings come in, so it took me a while to get back to finishing up the memoir. I liked it, especially because it also included information about the time period, so her life was put into a more historical setting. I also liked reading snippets of her letters (although it looks like they were edited without comment [the editor of this edition usually mentions when this happens though]).

This one is off to a new reader tomorrow.

Why did it take me so long to discover Jane Austen? This was a wonderful read, as I have found several of her other books to be. I am reading the memoir this evening and so this will be available to share again shortly.

What a heartwarming story! Thank you for sharing it! I've read a lot of books about Jane Austen lately, but of Jane Austen herself I think I'd only ever read Pride and Prejudice in highschool 'til now. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I think it's interesting that there's so much dialogue in the story. If I remember right George Eliot's Adam Bede which I read about a year ago was the same way. I think people must have talked alot more than they do now because they didn't have TVs and all that business.

I have Psyche's addy and will post in the mail by Wednesday at the latest!

I finished this earlier this week. It wasn't my favourite Jane Austen, frankly... I've PM'd the next person and I'm waiting for an address to send it on...

Nov. 23: pinkmanager wants to be skipped, so since it's a ray and she was supposed to be the last person, I am going to keep the book (and pass it on to another BCer eventually), unless the host of the ring wants me to do otherwise...
