On the back cover:
At the age of sixteen, Yvonne Foong was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, an illness that leaves patients to live in silence, isolated from a world that so many of us take for granted.

As she enters the gloomy life of hospital wards, relationships and friendships are put to the test. If you have ever wondered what it is like to cope with an incurable illness and to constantly receive news that crushes the human spirit, Yvonne's story is one of resilience and hope. Her efforts saw her being crowned Most Outstanding Youth of 2005 and the winner of the Dream Malaysia Award in the same year.

Emotional, stark and honest, I'm Not Sick, Just a Bit Unwell not only sheds light on the dreadful effects of neurofibromatosis, it also takes you on a journey to understand the struggles all challenged Malaysians face. It is an inspiration to anyone who has ever wanted to realise the power of faith and hope.

After reading this book, I just had the strongest urge to do something for this girl. And what better way to make an author happy than to see her work being read, especially by people all over the world? So, thanks to Bookcrossing, this is finally possible.

That's why I call this a bookring with a purpose. It's not just mere booksharing, it's an encouragement and motivation that will make a difference to someone. At the end of the ring, the book will be sent back to the author, and she will be able to log on to see how far and wide her book has travelled.

So c'mon all you good people out there... join this bookring. Make a difference.

Life with Neuro-fibroma-to-sis... I liked this story of resilience (I find resilience so important, maybe more nowadays than earlier) and hope. I remember a TV programme in France about NF a few years ago.
"Elephant Man" had NF, right ?
Now I've read it.
Who's next ? jumpingin.

I knew nothing about NF when I started this book, so I found Yvonne's story very interesting, as well as inspiring. I agree with souram that resilience is so important, and I love reading about resilient people.

Thanks, tohweiee, for sharing this book. I would probably never have come across it otherwise.

I have bananabrianna's address and will be putting the book in the mail in the next day or two.

Just received in the mail today. I'll do my best to squeeze time to read in with my studies. I'm even more anxious to read this now that my summer study abroad in Malaysia has fallen through. Thanks for sending it along, classicfox!

I've just finished this and PM'd oi-reader for their address. Yvonne's book is great, though I also I wish it had been more in depth. It was so interesting to compare the different perceptions and practices of Malaysian and American hospitals. Of course, the real message and most interesting part of this book is Yvonne's life, her accomplishments, and how she should be an inspiration to us all. She refuses to be cheated out of all life has to offer, regardless of the hardships that come with battling NF. I don't know if anyone else has checked out her website, but it's certainly worth the visit: www.yvonnefoong.com

Thanks to Yvonne for sharing her story and to tohweiee for sharing Yvonne's book!

Update (5/16): Sadly I have been informed that oi-reader passed away several months ago. Contacting the next person in line for this book.

Evidently the reason I never got this book, was the fact that I never GOT this book. It appears this was picked up by a little family member (who shall remain nameless) who subsequently managed to lose it on the way from the mailbox to the house. Hmmm...

Anyway, I'm sitting down with this book now. It looks quick, so I should be finished within a week.
