A true story of a boy in China who spent World War II in a Japanese concentration camp.

The author reminisces about the six years that he spent in 'internment' in China during World War II. He was six when was sent to boarding school in Chefoo, China with his older sister. During that time, Japan attacked China. Travel was limited so they were not able to travel home to visit parents during the holidays. His parents were missionaries in northwestern China. The students and teachers of the boarding school were held as prisoners and transported twice. They finally ended up in Weifang internment camp with other foreigners. The author was twelve years old when he was released.

I found this book to be interesting and uplifting. The way the teachers took care of the children and taught them so then when they were finally released they were ahead of students their age. Some were even able to pass entrance exams at Cambridge University. It was difficult but most survived.
