Thank you for the tag! Always interesting to take on a classic!
Well what can I tell you? I had seen fragments of the movie, not really impressed. Had a feeling Jane Austen wasn't quite my kinda girl. And yes. Already after the first page I knew this book wouldn't make it far with me. Only reason I gave it a shot is because it's on the 1001-list. For me it's not gonna be 1001 books I've read. It's gonna be 1001 books I tried to read. ;-)
The wonderful bookcrosser that sent me this book very tragically died way too young about a month ago. Thereby a lot of bookcrossers lost a very good friend. I started up a release challenge in her honor where the participants will release titles found on her bookshelf and her wishlist.
The very first book that came to my mind was this one. The first time I can remember noticing Oppem was when she tagged me with this book in the wishlist tag game. When I checked who was wishing for this book I was very pleased to find that a certain bookcrosser that I know shared a special bond with Oppem was on that list. I think Oppem would agree that you are the perfect recipient of this RABCK. She would've wanted you to have it.
I hope you will enjoy it.

I am positive she would appreciate it even more , that you took the special care and effort (not to mention postage money, she had a very witty, a bit tongue-in-cheek, kind of chuckly humour , let's not forget :)))) to make sure the book reached me.
We did share a lot of reading interests too, including the classics, so it's not very strange that I would end up receiving a book she started into the world...
I love Jane Austen. Sense and sensibility, pride and prejudice. The comedy of manners (even unintently), the language, the feel of the era. I don't know why, but I never came across Emma before. There aren't a lot of English books available in Belgium, but sometimes classics can be found / purchased. But never Emma.
So thank you Elskaliam. This is very much appreciated.
I will read the book and think of my earthly new friend (you) and our heavenly sister :) Cheers Oppem, you are indeed missed ! I know you do read your journal entries from a better place now. But I will cherish it a bit further before releasing to the next reader.
I have some other books started / sent by oppem too, but I'm finding it hard to let go of them. I know I have to eventually, but I'm not looking forward to the day that the last book she sent out leaves the house.
I'm a bit of a dramaqueen sometimes, but Elskaliam, so are you right ? ;))))
I do try to read the 1001-list too, but ... realise all too often that life's too short to spend it on reading bad books, so there have been quite a few I tried, ended up skipping myself too...

Received today, along with the cheerful postcard. The edition has a different cover, with the lovely painted woman. After this, I have only one Austen left to read, hurray!
I'm using this book in my English vocabulary study. It's a gem from the start:
disposition - one's usual temperament or frame of mind
vex - cause annoyance in; disturb, especially by minor irritations
indulgent - characterized by yielding to the wishes of someone
disagreeable - not to one's liking; unpleasant or offensive
want - absence or deficiency; lack
I'm lucky it showed up in a VBB.
