Like all books I've read by this author, absolutely great! I had seen the movie "Cannery Row" over thirty years ago, maybe a couple years after reading that book, and had been wanting to read this book since I knew the movie was based on both books.
I love the description of all the characters; I've been reading some biographical data on Steinbeck - the blurb at the front of the book says he'd studied marine biology at Stanford but never got a degree. I've had the impression that the character of "Doc" in these two books was a close friend of his named Ed Ricketts, who I believe died in an automobile accident before he wrote this book.
This is one of my favorite authors - I've read maybe a half dozen or so of his books; in my opinion he's up there with Twain and Vonnegut......
will release soon.....
