I'd say read David King and skip the following post-modern novelists who get more shelf space and acclaim: James Frey (Fiction/Memoir--either way) David Foster Wallace (May he rest in Peace) Jonathan Safran Foer (fiction: Everything is Illuminated -- oy) Jonathan Franzen (The Corrections) A great post-modern novel with an offbeat, anti-hero sort of narrator, strong characters and themes including social issues. Reserved for next meetup.

Really well written and some really poignant scenes. I can understand why its gotten the reviews it has. I have to admit though that some of the day-to-day stuff started getting a little slow.

Picked up at June Boston Bookcrossers Meetup. Actually, I mentioned missing Meetup for a Sox game and it passed to me immediately. Looks interesting.

I really enjoyed this, in less capable hands it could have been dreadfully oversentimental but it was very well-written and the characters real people, warts and all. It was a bit dreary at times but it isn't the most upbeat of stories, until the sweet gem of an ending. Thanks to whomever it was who pressed it on me.
