Journal Entry 1 by crantock from Brough, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Monday, February 15, 2010
'Annie's put fifteen years into safe, slightly obsessive Duncan, and now she'd like her money back, please. It's time to move on. But she lives in Gooleness, the north's answer to a question nobody asked. Is she really going to find real, proper, feel-it-deep-down-in-your-boots love on a damp and windy seafront? Or perhaps she should follow her heart and pursue Tucker, the reclusive American rock star, who keeps emailing her his smart advice.'

Journal Entry 2 by rainbow3 at Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom on Monday, December 20, 2010
How kind, many thanks go to crantock with an honourable mention for sending me this copy of Juliet Naked pass on in the BC UK Yahoo Group, Not-So-Secret-Father-Christmas-Surprise event 2010. Fantastic Fiction: In a dreary seaside town in England, Annie loves Duncan - or thinks she does, because she always has. Duncan loves Annie, but then, all of a sudden, he doesn't anymore. So Annie stops loving Duncan, and starts getting her own life. She sparks an e-mail correspondence with Tucker Crowe, a reclusive Dylanesque singer- songwriter who stopped making music twenty-two years ago, and who is also Duncan's greatest obsession. A surprising connection is forged between two lonely people who are looking for more out of what they've got. Tucker's been languishing (and he's unnervingly aware of it), living in rural Pennsylvania with what he sees as his one hope for redemption amid a life of emotional, familial, and artistic ruin - his young son, Jackson. But then there's also the material he's about to release to the world, an acoustic, stripped-down version of his greatest album, Juliet, titled Juliet, Naked. And he's just been summoned across the Atlantic with Jackson to face his multitude of ex-wives and children (both just discovered and formerly neglected), in the same country where his intriguing new Internet friend resides. What happens when a washed-up musician looks for another chance? And miles away, a restless, childless woman looks for a change? Juliet, Naked is a powerfully engrossing, humblingly humorous novel about music, love, loneliness, and the struggle to live up to one's promise. ----------------------------------------------------- Entertaining with some delightful laugh out loud moments but I didn’t leave it prickling like a hedgehog with post-its pointing the way to searing insights which I simply could not resist quoting. The only quote that came to mind was in relation to Annie’s state of mind and comes from another book entirely, Girls Poker Night by Jill A Davis. “And I am sad that this is the type of person I am. I am a person who will stay in a relationship for three years because this relationship will never hurt me. I will park my love here because I will never experience great joy, but more important, I will never be devastated. The dissolving of this won’t be painful at all. It will just be a formality. A formal ending to something that barely or never existed. It’s all about might. It might hurt. It might not work. It might be awful. I never think it might work. It might be good. It might be fun.”

Released 1 yr ago (12/20/2010 UTC) at Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
… this book travels in my parcel, to bookcrosser safrolistics, as part of the BookCrossing UK Yahoo Discussion Groups annual book gifting event, the Not So Secret Father Christmas Surprise 2010. It was placed into the 1nd class post today. I’m heading off today for an extended period over Christmas and New Year and am rather behind-hand getting organised for my departure… and knowing I behind-hand on things want to offer apologies if this is actually late! All looking… well, this will arrive in time for opening on the 25 December 10, though factoring in the current UK seasonal hic-ups, I’m hoping my aim is not thwarted. We shall see ;-) Happy Christmas safrolistics

Thanks for sharing this book with me, I really enjoyed it. Yes, it was a little like High Fidelity, but as I enjoyed that too (and it's been many years since I've read it), no harm done. Not sure where the book will travel next..... watch this space!
