The Flying Troutmans
2 journalers for this copy...
Got this for Christmas form my literary-loving aunt.
From the back: "The impetuous Hattie has just been dumped by her Paris boyfriend; her sister, Min, is going through a particularly dark period; and Min's two kids, Logan and thebes, are not talking, and tlaking way to much, respectively.
So when Hattie recieves an SOS call from eleven-year-old Thebes, she grabs the first plane home. There she discovers that Min is on her way to a psychiatric ward, and Hattie assumes responsibility for the kids... At once hilarious and heartrending, 'The Flying Troutmans' tells the story of a fractured family on the verge os spinning off its axles and a road trip that might just keep them together."

It was good-- not as poignant or climactic as "A Complicated Kindness", which i absolutely loved. Hard not to compare the two.
This book was touching at times--- i loved the character of Thebie--- she was all innocence and heart and joy and human. Hattie was not my favorite though-- i kinda wish Thebie had been the narrator instead. The dialogue was sharp and surprising and fun, although not at all realistic. I WISH i knew 12 year olds that talked that way, with that kind of insight!
All in all though, i liked it. Good book. About independence and dependance, and how the tread the line between the two. How to love and how to support, what it means to care for others and be cared for. A real reciprocal type of story i guess.
Will pass on to someone else soon!

It kept me going. It has great dialogue and very good writing. Just a sweet story.
