Picked it up cheap at the bookstore. Looked potentially interesting so thought i would give it a try.

From the back: "This is a story of an unlikely love at the dawn of the electric age in America. In 1914, Toma Pekocevic is a penniless immigrant in New YTork recently escaped form the bloody politics of the Balkans that has claimed most of his family. He is also a gifted inventor who designs a revolutionary water turbine while workign with Harriet Bigelow, scion of a proud Connecticut iron-making dynasty now fallen on hard times."

Will journal more once I have read it

Feb 20: Well, i gave it a go, but i just couldn't get into this book. Smacks a little of the basic story of "Love in the time of Cholera", except not as magical, whimsical or profound. So much talk and detail about iron and wheels and forges. The story doesn't move much. Plus, I can't seem to connect to the main characters. Toma is brooding, but not particuarly passionate. I don't know. I just don't buy it. And Harriet, i find her annoying. Fussy and indecisive. Anyway, not to say this is a bad book--- the writing is okay, and for someone who is into engineering or metal, it could be really very interesting. But for me, I couldn't get into it.

Will pass on soon!

My husband actually picked it up for me out of the staff room at his school. It's my first book crossing catch!
